In an effort to inculcate patriotism among school students, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, 28 September, launched ‘Deshbhakti Curriculum’ for all state government schools at an event organised at Chhatrasal Stadium.
Every child in Delhi will be a patriot in the true sense, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal exuded as he launched the AAP government’s ambitious ‘Deshbhakti Curriculum’ on Tuesday. At the launch event held at Chhatrasal Stadium on the birth anniversary of revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, the Chief Minister remarked that nowadays people feel patriotic only while raising the Tricolour or singing the national anthem.
Speaking at the event, CM Kejriwal said:
“With this curriculum, we will not just produce doctors, engineers, lawyers and other professionals, but we will produce a patriot doctor, a patriot engineer and a patriot lawyer, who will put their country first. They will no longer be driven by the money factor. Instead, they will do what is best for their nation and countrymen.”
‘Deshbhakt’ professionals would return from work thinking how they can further contribute to society and not how to rake in more money from under the table. A patriotic officer won’t think about bribes but about clearing the most number of files to help the people,” he said.
The ‘Deshbhakti Curriculum’ will be rolled out from nursery to Class 12 as and when schools reopen for the respective grades. The curriculum won’t have any textbooks. Facilitator’s handbooks have been designed for three cohorts — nursery to Class 5; Classes 6 to 8 and Classes 9 to 12 — and these will be used to inculcate patriotism among the students through simple activities.
The facilitator’s handbooks for two cohorts — Classes 6 to 8 and 9-12 — and 100 stories of freedom fighters and patriots were also unveiled at the launch event. Three nodal teachers have been appointed in every school to ensure proper implementation of the Patriotic Curriculum, one for class nursery to 5th, one for class 6th to 8th and one for class 9th to 12th, informed the statement.
In order to train the nodal teachers, an orientation programme is to be organized by NCERT for all these nodal teachers from September 29 to October 5, in which they will be trained on how the feeling of patriotism can be inculcated in the children
