WOMEN EMPOWERMENT THROUGH SELF-EMPLOYMENT

Might find this topic very common and fancy among women like us, though it’s debated for ages, only 50% of women supports their family financially and contributes to the economic empowerment of the society. There are social, political and cultural reason behind it. In this article I am not going to discuss with its pros and cons of it.

I would like to share my knowledge experience and how women can support their family and society by contributing a balanced work and family life.

I personally believe, along with the education, vocational skills are also important for women to lead a balance life. There are many school and college toppers unemployed or who have resigned their jobs to take care of their family needs. This wouldn’t have happened if they have spent some time in grooming up themselves with some vocational knowledge too. so, today they would have used their free time to be a productive one.

We JAY’S TAILORING INSTITUTE offer one of such opportunity to train your vocational skill on tailoring and embroidery. We have framed our courses especially for all kind of women, like home-maker, working, students or dropouts. With flexible timing and syllabus.

WHY SEWING?

Sewing is the greatest way to make some extra cash.  Well lots of people doing it. And there are many women turned their hobby of sewing into full time, work at home business.

Until human race exist on earth sewing business will do. So sewing is greatest way to earn. In sewing business, no matter how large or small, your success depends on the ability to attract customer.

But, there are some other pretty good reason for starting your own sewing business. Few of them

  1. You can do it from home
  2. Your hours are flexible as you need them to be
  3. You can start small and then build

HOW TO START SEWING AS BUSINESS?

Once you have decided to start your own sewing business, you get to pick the type of business that appeals to you the most. You can make your choice based on

  1. Your experience level
  2. Your personality
  3. Types of sewing project you enjoy.

Few ideas to start the business.

  1. Offer mending and alteration Services:

As fun as sewing can be, it also has its practical side. When a piece of clothing gets damaged you get it repaired than replacing it. And as seamstress, knows repairing or altering would be less expensive than buying a new one. Not only old clothes , newly bought dresses from retail are also needs  some alteration to fit them better.

  1. Make garments for others:

Still customized garments have their value. You can construct garment that fits the people shape, size or body type. You can choose which type of dress you going to be specialized at like gowns or bridal wear or kids boutique etc.

  1. Specialize in making home decors:

Like curtains, pillow cases, table cloth, duvet covers etc. either you can make in bulk quantity and sell it on retail or you can customize for customers. For instance if some one wants duvet cover you can offer them with matching pillow case and curtains.

  1. Can be a sewing tutor:

Many people would love to learn sewing but one or other thing that they cannot take classes. So you can teach them individually few hours in a week or a day at their place.

  1. Selling your sewing craft:

Now a days we have online platforms to sell your craft item. Whether you are sewer or quilter or embroiderer or some other type of crafter, you probably have the skill to make at least one thing other people would buy.

  1. Offer a sewing machine repair service:

One thing that all sewers need from time to time is some one to fix their sewing machine.

  1. Build blog or vlog

Now a day’s internet helps us to know many things. pick one audience and become the expert on those type of product. It could be kids wear embroidery home decors or quilts etc. blogging or becoming an you tuber are the less investment with more income which you can do from home on free time.

  1. Personalized boutique:

We can concentrate a set of customers. Like specialized in uniform or blouse or designer knock off or western wear or bridal wear or kids wear or ethnic wear etc.

  1. Teach classes:

You can start from home or a hire small place to start.  Not only offline you can also make classes online. Can sell your videos in udmey, domestika etc. or on your own website

Yes, as I mentioned above there are “n” number of ways to earn and support your family. By doing little things differently we can support our family, we can be financially independent by balancing our family life. So personally, I feel that vocational skills are equally important as our academics. Which will balance our life skills.

And I am happy that, our “Jay’s tailoring institute” is teaching one of such vocational skills in tailoring and embroidery works. And also helped many women to become an Entrepreneurs who are financially independent, self sufficient and also supporting their family without barging their duties as wife, mother or daughter in law.
